The city of Atlanta has a special place in my heart. Y’all! I love the people, the food, and the trees (yes, the trees!). It’s the city that birthed rap legends like Goodie Mob, Outkast, and may she rest in peace, Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes. I love that it’s an international hub and the “Black Mecca” of America. There is melanin poppin’ everywhere! No, seriously! I’ve seen the city at every life stage – first as a middle school student, as a rebellious teen, a college age “kid”, a full blown adult and now as a married woman. It never gets old.
If I had to cheat on Dallas, it would definitely be with ATL. On our most recent visit to the land of the Georgia Peach, we had a chance to check out the city for a few hours. Our friends and gracious hosts recommended a stop at the then newly-built Ponce City Market, a mixed-use development made up of retail, restaurant, office (we toured the MailChimp HQ with a friend) , and living spaces. We’ve seen similar developments popping up in major cities in recent years but I can always appreciate developers that repurpose buildings like this one, a historic Sears, Roebuck & Co building in Atlanta’s Old Fourth Ward.

SWEETS
Honeysuckle Gelato – Sweet creams with fresh toppings you won’t forget. As an added plus, 5% of all sales go to the Atlanta Community Food Bank.
King of Pops – an Atlanta staple these days. Grab an ice cold treat for the hot summer days in the A-Town. Not pictured.
EATS
Bellina Alimentari – Gourmet Italian eatery with a full-service market and sit down bar. People, this not your normcore Olive Garden pasta fest. Proceed with wild abandon!
H&F Burger – A good burger is hard to come by but not at H&F. Try it for yourself and thank me later. Not pictured.
SHOP
Archer Paper Goods – Stationery abounds in this cute novelty shop. Tell that special someone how much you love them or simply that you’re thinking of them with a greeting card from APG.
Goorin Bros. Hat Shop – I’m not really a hat girl. I love the idea but between this forehead and my locs, it just doesn’t work. But stop in, if only to try on a few for kicks!
On another note, if you enjoy well-written satiric tv comedies, catch up on previous episodes of Donald Glover’s “Atlanta” sitcom. Season two has been green-lighted so that says something, right? #doitfortheculture
