On this episode of #TBTtravels, we find ourselves in a tropical paradise…

Dave & I were married on NYE 2014 in a small elopement ceremony. We celebrated with a large ceremony + celebration for our family and friends a few months later and went on honeymoon in Bali! We chose Indonesia because we’ve both traveled internationally and really wanted to pick a part of the world neither had ever visited. Indonesia is a place of friendly people, yummy food (like frfr!), and beautiful surroundings!

But first, we had an overnight layover in Taipei, Taiwan! We booked a room through Airbnb and our host guided us through a traditional night market. Food is kinda my jam so needless to say we ate our fill of things on sticks and plenty of boba tea! We also had the chance to explore the Zhongli District at sunrise, including a 7-11 before heading to the airport. Trust me, convenience stores in Asian countries are like mini versions of Eatzi’s with high quality prepared foods unlike “cough, cough” Muricah!

Traveler’s Tip: If you have a day or two to spare on an international trip, book a flight with a layover in a desirable city. You get two (or more) countries for the price of one! Be sure to check whether or not you need a visitor’s visa to leave the airport.

On to paradise! We were gifted with a stay at the Grand Hyatt Bali in Nusa Dua, Indonesia. Shout out to moms! Waking up without an alarm is always the best. AMIRITE or am I right?! I find I’m always up at the crack of dawn on vacation ready to take on the world! But those sunrises, though?! So worth it!

Our excursions included temple tours, riding elephants at the Elephant Safari Park & Lodge, visiting rice terraces in Ubud and climbing waterfalls in northern Bali. We even made an impromptu pit stop at our driver’s home for coffee and met his entire family (all of em)! Indonesian food is flavorful and never boring. I still crave “nasi goreng” and am on the hunt for a legit Indonesian food spot in Texas. If you know of one, let a sista know! Our honeymoon was full of first-time arguments and fun adventures. The Lord started that whole “marriage is sanctification” process before we even took off but I’d do it all again in a heartbeat. See more images from our trip below. Happy Travels!
